WHIPLASH

an emotional interactive exhibit

The idea behind WHIPLASH was to design and build eight rooms that represented eight emotions that a person can feel in their life. The first room was set in 2002 and the last room in 2022. The emotions were wonder, love, chill, loneliness, anguish, disgust, guilt, and déjà vu. The room I designed and built was anguish, but I was also a co-set lead for the whole show which meant I was responsible for designing and leading the construction of the overall space such as the hallways between the rooms.

Anguish Room Design

The anguish room was supposed to make you feel like your world has been thrown upside down, so I decided to build the room on one of it's edges. I put floorboards where the wall should be and hung chairs and books from the ceiling, creating the feeling that things are flying through the air as if the room has just flipped over.

This is a 3d model I made  in sketchup and and a photoshop mock-up of the final room
